Canfranc Estación, a Royal Hideaway Hotel

Its name is to be taken quite literally: Canfranc Estación, a Royal Hideaway Hotel is in fact a hotel occupying the beautifully preserved Canfranc International Station, a piece of railway history dating back to 1928 — an impossibly ornate edifice with the rocky mountainsides of the Aragonese Pyrenees as a backdrop. Its 104 rooms and suites are designed in a style that recalls the early 20th century, even though the comforts are thoroughly modern. There’s a substantial spa and wellness center — the building is certainly long enough for a lap pool — and its restaurant, Canfranc Express, has earned a Michelin star under the direction of chef Eduardo Salanova and manager Ana Acín.
