Susana Balbo Winemaker's House & Spa Suites
As Argentina’s first female winemaker, Susana Balbo has a name that carries a bit of weight — and for her entry into the hospitality world she lends her initials to SB Winemaker’s House & Spa Suites, a stunning seven-suite luxury boutique hotel in the wine country village of Chacras de Coria, just outside of the city of Mendoza. Susana’s daughter, Ana Lovaglio Balbo, is her partner in hospitality, and whether or not they’ve got plans for further expansion, the Winemaker’s House is an auspicious debut. Occasionally “spa suite” means nothing more than a suite located near a spa; here each one is a self-contained mini-spa, complete with a sensation shower, an oversized soaking tub, and a massage table for en-suite treatments; wellness butlers are on hand to help guests navigate the spa menu. The suites are uniformly stylish as well, in a sort of maximalist contemporary-luxe idiom, and their decks look out into the garden, and are equipped with heated loungers and fire pits. To this the SB Winemaker’s House adds a wealth of wine knowledge, including tastings and classes on winemaking and pairing. And that expertise is naturally on display in the restaurant as well — La VidA serves upscale Argentinian fare accompanied by wines from the hotel’s enyclopedic cellar.
