Despite its relatively modest capacity — just 56 units — The Resort at Kapalua Bay, Maui has all the facilities of a much larger resort, as well as a privileged location that’s flanked by a pair of golf courses, a nature reserve, and a marine reserve with some phenomenal diving and snorkeling. Safe to say you’ll be hard pressed to think of anything that’s missing. Those 56 units, or Residences, are aptly named, given that they’ve all got full kitchens, laundry machines, and soaking tubs in marble bathrooms. The two-bedrooms actually sleep up to six, thanks to space for extra cribs, while the largest four-bedroom residences can sleep up to ten — all of them outfitted in a contemporary style that suits its island environment without lapsing into tropical kitsch. Meanwhile the spa spans the usual facials and massages to hair treatments and mani-pedis, plus there’s a gym, hot tub, and outdoor pool. You’re also surrounded by ample opportunities for less structured exercise, from kayaking and snorkeling to hiking trails and golf. There’s a pool bar and beach bar for relaxed day time dining and the main restaurant is an indoor-outdoor space that serves modern Hawaiian cuisine based around fresh seafood and local produce with a fantastic panoramic view.
