Warren Street Hotel, Firmdale Hotels
Kit Kemp’s Firmdale hotels are practically a genre unto themselves — luxurious yet lively, they combine country and city aesthetics, and feel glamorous and cozy at the same time. Colors, in particular, run rampant, and that’s particularly true of the Warren Street Hotel, whose bright blue façade stands out among its red brick Tribeca neighbors. And though they’re uniformly well-located in some of London and New York’s finest neighborhoods, they feel, in a way, like self-contained worlds apart from their surroundings. In fact the inimitable Kemp style continues to evolve. Warren Street was designed by Kit and her daughters Willow and Minnie, and the result is somehow even more packed with pattern, texture, and color than ever — in stark contrast with the minimalist styles that once defined Downtown Manhattan style. Each of its 69 rooms and suites is unique, though obviously cut from the same vast and eclectic collection of cloth. They’re as comfortable as they are visually striking, right down to the marble bathrooms and the subtly high-tech entertainment systems. Like its sister hotels, Warren Street attracts a fashionable crowd. Some of its common spaces are reserved for guests only, while others, like the Warren Street Bar & Restaurant, mix travelers and locals in a space that’s suitably colorful and filled with original contemporary artworks.
