Quadrille
Prosperous trading in port towns along the Baltic coast led to the construction of lavish estates in the countryside, including an 18th-century palace outside Gdynia. Today, it’s home to Hotel Quadrille, one of the only Relais & Châteaux properties in Poland. Though the interiors have been reimagined with an Alice in Wonderland theme — black and white checkerboard floors, whimsical patterned wallpaper, fanciful light installations, overstuffed velvet armchairs — it’s a sophisticated, adults-only escape. The Quadrille’s rooms are named after and inspired by great writers: the Lewis Carroll room, with its avant-garde design and opulent open-plan bathroom, edges into Tim Burton territory, while the wood-beamed Emily Brontë suite and the attic-like Jane Austen room are quaint and cozy. The White Rabbit Restaurant serves twelve-course tasting menus in the style of a colorful tea party, and larger-than-life outdoor sculptures in the surrounding park evoke the second chapter of Carroll’s absurdist masterpiece.
