The Lince Santa Clara
Just outside Porto in Vila do Conde, a historic 14th-century monastery was transformed into the luxurious Lince Santa Clara. Its design was reimagined by Portuguese architect Carvalho Araújo, who kept many of the building’s best features, including the grand façade and the dramatic stone brick archways of the former convent, now housing a pair of high-end restaurants. Rooms and suites are bright and elegant, outfitted in pale shades of white, ivory, and gray, and Art Deco–inspired details including coffered walls, recessed lighting, and palatial white marble bathrooms. The most charming rooms, including a handful of compact doubles and a range of spacious suites, feature steeply vaulted ceilings built under the monastery's original mansard roof. The open-air infinity pool is a treat in summer, and for the rest of the year, the stone-lined indoor pool and the Sisley spa make for a perfectly peaceful escape.
