Shinsho-an
Shinsho-an occupies a converted teahouse in the temple district between Nanzen-ji and the Heian Shrine, restored by Kyoto's Nakamura Sotoji Komuten using the same sukiya-zukuri techniques the firm has practised since 1908. Four suites are arranged around a central tsubo-niwa garden, each with its own engawa veranda and hinoki bath. Service is one host per suite, kaiseki by Kyoto chef Ryuhei Sakamoto served privately. The whole property houses no more than eight guests at a time. There is no signage at the gate.
